It has been a bee-utiful year! Today we learned about bees- reading about how they eat, how they make honey, their body, and fun facts. We made our own bumble bees- practicing cutting, drawing the stripes on the body, and naming the body parts as we created our bees.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Today we painted an American Flag using q-tips, talked about how we celebrate the day, graphed different foods people eat at BBQs to celebrate the day, made a book about Memorial Day, went to the school assembly and marched in the parade!
We had a wonderful sensory afternoon playing with butterfly sparkle slime and making our own toilet paper holder butterflies. All the students love getting their hands painted! Their hands will make beautiful wings for the butterflies. We talked about the life cycle of the butterfly and what we remembered from observing our own caterpillars turn into butterflies.
We have been learning about flowers and food that can be grown in gardens or on a farm. Today we played an activity on the smart board where we picked the flower we wanted to grow, sequenced the steps of how to grow a flower and then watched it grow. We took a movement break to get up and dance to the Koo Koo Kangaroo and then made our own flower pot with a flower for each letter of our name. The name flower pots look beautiful hanging up in our classroom!
This week we have been learning about flowers, how to grow plants and what a plant needs to survive. We read The Surprise Garden today to learn about different plants you can grow in a garden and we talked about all the different fruits and vegetables we eat. We talked about some fruits or vegetables we would like to grow in our own garden. Bananas were the most popular fruit that everyone wanted to grow! After the story we sequenced the steps to take to plant a flower.
Yesterday we had a fun afternoon creating ladybugs out of potatoes we used as stamps and we made the head and dots using our fingers. We also played in ladybug sensory bins filled with black beans, split peas, pretend little lady bugs, red pompoms and black pompoms. Everyone had a great time exploring the bins and making their ladybugs!
