This past week we have been learning about community helpers. We have been reading books, identifying different jobs people have, learning about what people do at their jobs, creating sentences with community helpers and practicing different skills with the theme of community helpers (sequencing, patterns, sorting, letter identification, rhyming, number value and shape identification).

The past 2 weeks we have been learning about animals that live in cold climates. We read about penguins, made our own penguin, created a penguin home using sugar cubes, and played "feed the penguin" practicing object identification, rhyming words and identifying beginning sounds. We practiced number identification and number value with goldfish and sorted animals by where they live. We sequenced The Mitten, answered comprehension questions and practice answering the questions by reading the complete sentence. We read an interactive text about Pat the Polar Bear and played a roll the dice activity to color the polar bear.
Today Mrs. Walker's class joined us for an afternoon of snow activities! We played in shaving cream, made name snowmen, enjoyed the sensory table filled with packing peanuts (snow) and played feed the snowman (practicing number identification, before/after, beginning sounds, and rhyming). We have been reading about the weather in winter, activities we can do in the winter and how we dress for the winter weather. We have been sorting clothes we wear, activities we do and food we eat in different weather. We built our own sentences of what we like to do in the winter and made coffee filter snowmen, which are both decorating our hallway bulletin board. We used the snowman to practice winter vocabulary, sorting by size, picture and color, as well as listening comprehension.
We have had a fun and busy December at CES! In our room we have been learning about the different holidays, having fun with gingerbread activities, science experiments, making reindeer food and so much more!! My goal for the new year is more pictures!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
We have had a so much fun making turkeys, reading about Thanksgiving, learning about Thanksgiving foods, and many different fun learning activities related to turkeys. This week we read different books from Laura Numeroff and focused on the letter H. We read If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, sequenced the story, practiced counting and number identification with pretend chocolate chip cookies. We read If You Give A Pig A Party and If You Give A Pig A Pancake too, working on comprehension questions, predicting, sequencing and talking about the beginning, middle and end of a story. We practiced number value by making pancakes out of playdoh and painted paper plates to create our own plate of pancakes like Pig in If You Give A Pig A Pancake.
This week we focused on the letter G, made a gumball machine, read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves, sequenced the story, read Going on a Leaf Hunt, went on our own leaf hunt, sorted leaves by color, shape and size, read an interactive Fall Vocabulary book, worked on reading comprehension questions, listening comprehension, played a roll the dice activity, and more!
We have had a blast doing so many fun Halloween activities this week! I hope everyone has a great weekend! We made a frog this week for our focus on the letter F, read Halloween books, sequenced Room on the Broom, played Feed the Ghost, made a pom pom paint ghost, practiced 1 and 2 step directions for Halloween activities, listened to clues to guess Halloween costumes.
We washed pumpkins and gourds, made "witches brew," made a ghost with our feet, and played with pumpkin playdoh. We all participated in the Spooktacular Literacy Event with our classes too! We have had a fun and busy 2 weeks learning about spiders and pumpkins. We read The Very Busy Spider, sequenced the story and made our own spider. We also made our own magic webs with water colors on paper plates, a handprint spider and a large spider web that we painted in sections and then removed the tape to reveal a beautiful web. We practiced sorting shapes, answering comprehension questions, letters and letter sounds, following 1 step directions, taking turns, coloring, tracing letters and writing our names. We learned about the parts of a pumpkin, all the different colors a pumpkin can be and how a pumpkin grows. We washed our classroom pumpkins in the sensory table with soap and sponges and opened up the pumpkins to feel the seeds and pulp. I think the whole class loved washing the pumpkins the most!! It was a huge hit! We have some master cleaners in this room!
I look forward to Halloween activities next week! Remember next Friday we will be having a literacy event in the afternoon at school. Children are allowed to bring in costumes for this event. You can send the costumes in their bag and we will help them get into their costumes after lunch. |
